My husband and I spent an enjoyable week at Finca
La Esperanza Verde near San Ramon, Nicaragua, in February 2005.
Their location is incredible, with pleasant accommodations, friendly
staff and leaders, and an excellent variety of native foods that
are well-prepared. This was an eco-education par excellence,
with a diverse program that included a cooking class; picking
and hand-processing organic shade-grown coffee; following a band
of red howler monkeys; spotting toucans, trogons, and hummingbirds
(including two juveniles in a nest ); finding a three-toed sloth "hanging
out" in a small tree by the coffee mill; picking out constellations
in the star-filled sky after the evening bonfire. We have attended
over forty Elderhostels over the years and would have been overjoyed
to find one like this experience at La Esperanza Verde.

The local government of the municipality of San Ramón
declares that the Private Forest Reserve and Ecolodge Finca Esperanza
Verde is a sustainable and viable ecotourism development in our
municipality. Being of much help and of social benefit to San
Ramón, the ecolodge has been declared the best ecolodge
in Nicaragua for 2004.
We appreciate the incalculable value to maintaining our natural
resources and to the development of projects of social benefit
to our community.
